Studying in India or abroad: how to decide
Cost, curriculum, career plans and comfort — a simple four-part test to make the India vs abroad decision without regret.
The India versus abroad debate is rarely about quality alone. It is about the total cost of the degree, the post-study work rights in that country, the strength of the alumni network, and how ready the student is to live independently.
Run the numbers first. Compare four years of total cost in India against two years abroad including living expenses, and then compare each against realistic starting salaries in that market.
Check the work pathway. A degree with a two or three year post-study work visa is a very different proposition from one without it.
Consider the curriculum. Some fields — design, data science, hospitality, certain health sciences — still have significantly stronger international programs. Others do not justify the premium.
Finally, be honest about readiness. Homesickness and part-time work pressure end more overseas degrees than academics do.
